KOLbeinsvik cabin
Austevoll, NORWAY
2017
This year-round cabin is designed for a family with deep roots on the site, where the wife grew up in a house that was demolished years ago. Facing the extreme weather conditions of the islands west of Bergen, the cabin is built on corten steel-clad concrete foundations, with rough heartwood cladding and a double-ventilated steel roof. The distinctive hammerhead gutters, crafted from marine-grade aluminum, were custom-made by a local machine shop in Kolbeinsvik.
Inside, whitened birch plywood walls and solid oak floors create a warm, modern interior that captures panoramic views of the surrounding islands and the mainland.
